Champ Marketing presents Joe's Sports wrap#2

The Absa Currie Cup continues to hot up after rugby enthusiasts were treated to another wonderful weekend that produced quite a few surprises……

Western Province achieved the double over the Sharks, a win that elevated them to the summit of the log.

Province fans must surely be confident about their chances of attaining silverware this season.

Despite being beaten for only the second time this season the Sharks remain in the top 2 while still boasting the best defensive record having only conceded 125 points from their 8 matches.

The streets of Johannesburg were painted red after the Lions victory in the battle of the Jukskei against old foes the Bulls. It has been another difficult season for the Lions but hopefully the win is just the tonic they need to keep their semi final aspirations alive.

The Bulls return to Pretoria with a valuable bonus point in the bag having lost by 7 points while also moving into 3rd position on the log. Frans Ludeke’s team has another difficult assignment this week hoping to become the first team to beat Western Province at Newlands this season.

The Cheetahs have certainly turned the corner recording their 4th victory on the trot. Naka Drotske’s men outplayed the Griquas in Kimberley on Saturday to keep their semi final aspirations alive. Griquas must be concerned having now lost 3 consecutive matches! Their next outing takes them to Potchefstroom for a date with the Leopards and one can’t help but think that this could be a do or die encounter for the Northern Cape outfit…..

In a bottom of the table clash the Leopards finally won their first match of the season demolishing the visiting Boland in Potch…. Boland return home for a meeting with the Sharks while the Leopards entertain Griquas on Friday.

Lastly hats off to the Springboks who remained unbeaten in the 2009 Vodacom Tri Nations Competition with a win over Australia in Perth. Victory on Saturday against Australia will guarantee the Boks the bragging rights in the Southern Hemisphere with 1 match remaining against New Zealand a week later.

Enjoy the weekend’s rugby!
